Troubled
Have you ever felt restless for seemingly no reason at all? This could be a sign that you feel more troubled about something than you realize. Sneaky little feeling, troubled. This little feeling (or not so small feeling) can be full of little gifts for us if we can give ourselves a moment to explore more about it.
You’re super focused and determined to get that report finished, but every time you sit down to work on it, your mind wanders off toward anything but that report. What gives? The laundry seems like a simple thing to whip through with little thought, but when you think about doing it, other thoughts take over. Here’s a good one. Someone forgot to pick up that loaf of bread and you blow a gasket over it. I know, it’s frustrating! Any of these scenarios sound familiar? Mr. Troubled is knocking on the door and you might not even realize it!
What if you spent 2 minutes writing about it? Take a walk. Have a self-conversation to explore what might be at the root of all the shifty, un-leveling energy going on around you. When you pinpoint what’s going on, your awareness can help you find other paths forward. Who in their right mind wants to admit their troubled? Not me! But hey, if the signs are pointing to something, perhaps my body, or better yet, my troubled emotion, is trying to help me. Give feeling troubled some notice. It’s a great first step. Sometimes it feels overwhelming and a chat with a friend or professional helps gain clarity around it.
One gift I’ve realized in my journey with my emotions is that identifying and being aware of how I’m feeling is half the battle. See the splinter in your finger? Now you know how to remedy your discomfort. What if the same is true about feeling troubled? Sounds like an effort, I get it! It takes effort to remove that splinter, too. Your finger feels grateful once the splinter is gone. Your heart will be grateful when you understand what’s troubling you as well. A point to ponder.
Emotions give our hearts something new to wear…
