Try Again

Try Again
Try Again

“You’re okay; try again.” Her dad encouraged her to get up off the ground she tumbled to while trying to ride her bike without training wheels. Sound familiar? When you started riding your bike, how many times did you try before you got the hang of it? Your heart was super motivated, but the first few times you tried, you went tumbling off the bike, learned how hard the ground was, and didn’t enjoy the result. What’s a person to do?

I’m reminded of my experience learning to ride a bike and ending the day looking like a seriously bruised apple. Yes, I hated my repeated rendezvous with the ground, and it hurt, but I was determined to experience what it’s like to ride from Point A to Point B. Wicked determination!

Fast forward to (clearing throat) many years later, having survived many ‘try-agains,’ and here I am trying something new again. I bring this story to the surface to offer some ideas and encouragement.
What is it in our hearts that keeps us trying again and again?

What is it in our hearts that keeps us trying again and again?

Remember the fierce determination you had when you put your passion forward and started learning how to ride? Nothing was going to stop you. You tried repeatedly, and eventually the balance, momentum and forward focus kept you upright. You felt the breeze in your face, and at last you were riding! Your heart believed in ‘yes’ and you found success.
Who grows tired of having to try again?

Who grows tired of having to try again?

You’re 15 minutes in, you’ve fallen more times than you want to count, and your knees and elbows evidence the concrete as winning the war. How much more can you take? How much more will you take? Your body hurts, your wounded pride wants to give up, and it doesn’t seem worth it. Then you remember your vision: you see yourself riding with friends, and your determination wakes up again.
Why can’t we just get it right the first time and scrap the scrapes and bruises?

If you hopped on your bike, took off and never fell, congratulations! If you’re like me and you tried over and over again, congratulations on sticking with it. Either way, you created a story-worthy experience that you’ve carried with you for many years. That’s gold!

There now. Are you ready to get up and try again? Give yourself another opportunity to succeed. Your passion lives on your wicked determination. The passion in your hear is saying yes, and knows you can win the war. When you ride, you are going to be thrilled beyond words! I want to hear your stories and share in your thrills, and most of all, I believe in you!
