It’s Time to Fly!
The time is now; it’s time to fly! You’ve grown, you’ve prepared, and now it’s time to take the leap. Nature has a way of showing us these things if we choose to pay attention from that perspective.
We have a small bird house in our yard, and each spring, the guest house fills with just the right little birds seeking a place to build their family. This year, we had some amazing little finches. They busily found the right materials to build a comfy place to do what birds do. They laid their eggs, and while mamma kept them warm, papa tirelessly tended to mom’s essential needs.
Then, one day, some sweet little peeps echoed in the confines of their comfortable home. I peeked into the little house to see the new lives making their presence known. Protective papa let me know straight away to keep my distance.
At first, papa kept the food coming for the little peepers. As the hatchlings grew, mom and pop both attentively tended to their nestlings. Such dedication and purpose! From first light until dusk, the traffic in and out of the guest house was amazing to watch. The little chicks grew stronger, their peeps turned into chirps, and before long…
The moment came. It was time to fly! Out plopped the young birds and the next big adventure was upon them. Figuring out how to perch and fly was a struggle at first. The encouragement I gave to them was like self-encouragement for me to take ‘next steps’ with my writing. They just flew the coop, and they were already teaching this captivated observer how to fly. After a short time, they learned how to perch, how to fly, and before long, everyone flew out into the world for their next grand adventure. They knew it was time to fly!
By their sweet example, I took what I observed to heart and took a leap of my own—branching out into new avenues in my writing adventures. Thank you, little finches, for your example, and for your bravery. Thank you, heart, for leading me forward.
