The Sweet Spot

The Sweet Spot
The Sweet Spot

Watch out for the sweet spot! Maybe yours is finding the perfect place on the head of a golf club to smack that little white ball into the playing field. Or maybe you’re having a conversation and the perfect timing happens for you to say something. Oh, then there’s a spot in nature that’s just right for hanging a hammock. (If you’re unaware, I live for hammock moments!) The sweet spot!

What is it about finding the right spot on a calendar? It works for you; it works for them, and everyone seems to be happy. Okay. Dinner is at 6:30 on Thursday. Perfect.

Sweet spots are those perfect moments when, figuratively, the planets align and the magic happens. I don’t know about you, but I love it when the magic happens. These glimmers of magic happen in friendships, relationships, and even projects. I love the magic that happens in a cinematic moment that causes a tear to fall freely down my cheek. It’s a sweet spot. It’s obvious my heart is engaged, and an emotion has surfaced. I feel connected to the characters in the story, and it somehow relates to something going on in my life at the moment. Celebrate!

How do you know when you’ve found the sweet spot? Is it only related to success? I recognize my sweet spot when something peacefully settles. I suppose that counts as success. How about getting that book written? There’s a sweet spot! Oh. That’s success again. It seems they’re tied together. When I feel disappointed, I rarely think of that as a sweet spot. Perhaps, though, the disappointment is leading toward another sweet spot; another moment of success.

My stepson just found out he didn’t make it into Harvard Divinity School. Hmm. Disappointment? Yes. But peace, as well. Perhaps there’s another path that leads him more gracefully to that which he desires. Isn’t that is nice perspective? (I’m so proud of him!) He’s optimistic about the sweet spot that awaits his discovery.

What happens in life when we savor our sweet spots? I think we have more of them when we’re in a place of notice. What are some of your sweet spots? Let’s have a sweet spot party and celebrate them. I hope your day finishes with at least one sweet spot!
