Yayayaaaaawn – Relaxation

Yayayaaaaawn – Relaxation – breathe. There. That felt good.

Let’s talk for a moment about relaxing, and the times in our lives when we choose to simply relax. In the ‘hurry up’ and ‘git-ur-done’ world, it’s easy to get into a mindset that says ‘I’m too busy to relax’ or ‘I don’t have time to relax’. Are you ready? Go ahead and allow yourself to yawn. If you’re having trouble mustering one up maybe this will help — yaaaaaaaaaaawn.

How was that?

Relaxing is a component of our lives that is important. It keeps our lives in balance. Downtime is every bit as important as uptime. When we take time for relaxation, it allows our mind to have ‘recess’. Remember recess? We put down our classes and our assignments, and we just went outside to play. That play, it seems to me, is important for our hearts, bodies, and minds. Even as, especially as a grownup, play is important.

Relaxing comes in many forms — sitting for a moment without purpose, other than letting go of demands and just having a pause. Getting out in nature — even a short walk is restorative and allows our minds to roam about freely. Take a short nap, or watch a child play to relax your heart and mind. If you’re sitting in an office, get up and stretch. Or, if you can take 3 minutes, just 3 little minutes, to walk around. Walk to the restroom and back. Ahhhh. That was nice.

At the very least, here is a moment, just for you. Breathe! Breathe in. Breathe out. There now. Repeat as many times as you like. Focusing on your breath is a great way to introduce moments of relaxation. It’s okay to give yourself a moment to breathe. Your mind and heart are grateful to you for the breath moment.

Share with me – how did you relax today or yesterday? What is your relaxation plan today? Inquiring minds want to know.
