I’m playing with the idea of conscious receiving today. Nice job! Congratulations! You look dapper today. I love you. I appreciate your helping me with this. You are amazing, and I’m so glad we are spending time together.
What’s spinning around in your consciousness when someone says these things to you? Do you grasp for a quick retort, feeling slightly uncomfortable and not sure what to say in response? I’m familiar with that one. Why do we sputter and wriggle around when someone notices and recognizes us with these gifts?
It’s time to swim in appreciation magic! Go ahead. Look around. Appreciation is there somewhere. Maybe it’s in that greeting card you set aside to read when you felt swept away by the life happening around you. Oh, here’s one! Imagine scrolling through your social feeds and finding the perfect words of encouragement. Thank you, world, for seeing me and hearing me. (Appreciation magic.)
Appreciated
We all want to feel appreciated. It’s a magic salve that lubricates our hearts and reminds us we’re in this world thing together. Genuinely, folks, I appreciate you! Many times, your ideas and words are just the right magic to turn the lights on in my heart. So thanks for putting your ideas into words. Just sayin’!
Goodbye year / hello year. WOW! Can it be that 2022 is this close to winding down? When did it come to pass that this new year upon us is 2023? It happens in a flash!
We can take this concept of one year passing and another year spawning and scale it down to smaller bits. Perhaps we can gaze upon a retiring month and the start of a new one. Or think of a week winding down and a new one ramping up. Sometimes it is a matter of days ending and new ones beginning, or perhaps moments closing and new ones bubbling to the surface. Pick one that works for you at this moment.
This cyclical idea is a gift in our linear world. There is a natural rhythm that happens when something ends and something new comes to life. I love how our seasons change in this way. Autumn ends and plants go to sleep for winter; winter comes to a close and the sleeping plants wake up. You get the idea. It is a cadence that helps us to take the events in our lives and allow them to change. I feel hope when I think about this idea from a perspective of things working in our lives and the freedom this gives us to let go of what is no longer useful.
Allow this outlook to be present in our thoughts to see liberating, new ideas illuminate. Perhaps something you’re angry about motivates you to make a change. There is a time and place for that anger, and it is okay to feel it. And then, there is a balancing peace that surfaces, which invites us to let go of that anger and turn our energies toward more peaceful ideas. Oh sigh. It is an amazing gift. It’s the holidays — let’s enjoy this gift!
Goodbye year / hello year. As 2022 comes to its conclusion and 2023 makes itself visible, I send you enormous baskets of love. I sincerely wish for you all the wonders you desire.
Nice looks like a tidy floral landscape. It also looks like spending time with people you love. I can see someone neatly dressed or someone holding an elevator door for the next guy. What does Nice look like to you? Perhaps it is sending a note to something through snail mail. It is that first bite into a perfect, juicy peach.
How does it feel when you are Nice? Where do you feel it in your body? When I’m nice, my body feels confident. My spine is upright, my face smiles without effort and my heart feels generous.
What does that mean – the gift of time? Have you ever opened a package with time in it? (Chuckle, chortle, grin.) Time is an amazing thing. How many volumes are there regarding time? Let me pick a few ideas for you to jump around in.
From a scientific perspective, time is both linear and parallel. As human beings, we mostly think of time from a linear standpoint. We have this moment. Oops, that moment’s gone now. Blink and instantly we’re experiencing the next moment. It happens in a flash – doesn’t it?
Ever thought about the magic of small gestures? Imagine if someone handed you a little box filled with kind acts. Makes you smile, right? Small gestures are seriously powerful and there is so much to say about them.
Let’s think about it this way. Like time, small gestures can be straightforward yet profound. You do something nice, and bam, it’s out there. But the cool part? Those little things reverberate way beyond that moment and touch so many people beyond the moment.
And here’s where it gets interesting – it’s like these gestures are happening all around us, all the time. We all play a part… you’re out there, doing a kind thing for someone, and at the same exact time, someone else is doing something nice for another person. Mind-blowing, isn’t it?
Can we all be part of this chain of kindness? Every small act, every little moment of kindness, it’s all part of this huge web. I’m here, thinking and talking about kindness, and at the same time, someone else is out there doing a good deed. Usually, you’d think you have to do something first before it makes an impact. But with a small gesture of kindness, the moment you do it, it’s already touching lives.
Playing around with the idea of small gestures is kind of fun. They can change things in a heartbeat. One second, someone might be having a rough day, and a small act of kindness can turn it all around. Is it possible to make a difference and feel the impact at the same time? Are we hopping from one good deed to another, or can these acts blend together? I believe it is all possible.
A simple gesture can heal, just like time heals a skinned knee. It creates moments, memories, and connections. Kindness can feel slow and gentle, or it can be quick and impactful. And in the time it took for us to chat about this, someone somewhere probably just made someone else’s day a bit brighter.
I’m not trying to solve world peace, just tossing around some thoughts around simple gestures of kindness. Maybe you’ve got your own experiences with small gestures. Do tell…
What does feeling thankful look like? I see it as someone who says the right thing at the perfect moment. I’ve experienced it as a project closing that I thought would never end. Perhaps thankful looks like a home to live in or a delightful meal to enjoy. Thankful sometimes looks like a hug or a wound that healed.
Fear is present in our lives, sometimes, to give us a much-needed warning. When we listen to it, from that perspective, it can protect us and keep us safe. That is a gift.
Other times, fear is scary and can cause us to respond in ways that perhaps we’d like to change. For example, you might be fearful about having a conversation with your boss or colleague. Maybe you’re fearful about making a suggestion. Perhaps you are fear-full about exploring a darker part of yourself. How can this kind of fear be a gift?
