“My personal memoir is finally here for you to read. I have held nothing back in sharing the most horrific experience imaginable through becoming the the whole person I am today. Get your copy and be prepared for the ride of your life.” Alexis Faere
Alexis Faere’s book gives an inside look into the author’s personal journey, recounting a harrowing kidnap and rape experience and the subsequent evolution from victim to survivor. Her words explore the process of integrating this traumatic event into her identity. When asked about the intended impact of the story, Alexis expresses a desire to reach out to victims of sexual abuse, individuals coping with various life traumas, and even convicted sex offenders engaged in treatment programs.
The significance of this book to Alexis lies in the aspiration to assist others in their trauma recovery. Drawing from personal experience, Alexis emphasizes the need for understanding and validation during the recovery process. Having faced challenges in articulating the profound turmoil within, she hopes that sharing this experience through words will empower others to find a language for integrating their own traumatic experiences.
Continue ReadingEmotional maturity – what does that mean? Our world is full of both goodness and social unrest. My observations of current world issues lead me to believe there is value in conscious emotional awareness – emotional maturity.
Consider events such as politics, corporate well-being, crimes against others, grief, anger, school shootings, and so on. Conscious or unconscious emotional responses have everything to do with the maturity of our leaders, children, families, and individuals.
Emotional maturity means understanding how we experience and respond to feelings. For a simple example, imagine someone speaking harshly toward you. What is the first emotion you feel? Shock, anger, misunderstood, defensive, or something similar. When you feel the emotion, is it conscious or unconscious? For a unique example, remember someone who speaks lovingly to you. How is your immediate emotional feeling different from the first example? Caring, open, understanding, and warm. Again, when you feel the emotion, is it conscious or unconscious?
Continue ReadingOur thoughts and the things we do to improve our lives also make the world better. There’s something to the power of one person making a difference. Think about it. If we take one moment to get our self-universe centered, our energies are different; focused and drawing what we want in our lives. If 5 people do that, what do you suppose the impact of that would be universally, outside of ourselves? Now think about that same picture, but imagine thousands of people doing it; millions. How do you think our experience of the world would change?

I understand sometimes paranoia can become chronically debilitating for some. When that happens, it’s always good to reach out for help when it disrupts your life and how you want to live. There are other times, though, paranoia creeps in and giving it some air-time can help to understand more about what’s going on. It’s those little fears that come knocking on our door and sometimes they like to take root and cause abundant chaos in our lives.
Continue ReadingIt may seem like a worn out thought, living in the moment, but there’s something wise and profound about that idea. The hours I’ve spent living for a moment instead of in the moment are too numerous to count. I wonder how much I could have accomplished if I allowed myself to be in the moment instead of wishing for another one.
Continue ReadingWhat the heck does querulous mean? I know. It’s a new description of a feeling for my vocabulary, too! Querulous pertains to feeling dissatisfied or annoyed, which leads to chronic complaining. Have you ever been there before, or been around someone who is suffering from querulousness? I bet we all have!
Continue ReadingLet’s explore the power of opposites. Chaos and calm, noise and peace, anger and joy, hungry and full, sad and happy, …peace and opportunity. Sure, we all strive for happiness, joy, peace, wealth, and grace in our lives. We all want more of that, right? How do you know, though, that you want more joy if you’ve never experienced anger? Can you really know what it means to feel happy if you’ve never experienced sadness? If you never knew what it was like to feel hungry, how can you appreciate what it means to feel well-fed? What’s up with these opposites?
Continue ReadingYou’re working feverishly to meet a deadline and suddenly receive some unexpected news that rattles you to your core. The pounding heart in your chest, sweaty hands, and shallow breathing leave you feeling rattled. Be careful where you step! The head of the pin you’re standing on barely has enough room for both feet, and you can feel it teetering beneath you.
Continue ReadingWhat makes your soul dance? Have you ever watched a movie that reached into the depths of your soul to a point of tears, and you let the tears flow without reservation? When our souls move and we feel; these are wonderfully deep and authentic emotions. What is it about connecting with our soul so deeply that it makes us spontaneously feel?
Continue ReadingEmotions can be teachers for us to stay true to who we are or who we want to be. Think for a moment about the last time you felt shame. Where does that feeling come from? Did you think or believe that if you hid, your shame would disappear and no one would notice? Maybe you felt like you were flawed.

Where’s Mom and Dad when I want them? And why can’t they give me what I’m looking for? When I was in the throes of trauma recovery, I had an image in my mind about the support I was looking for from my parents. (Note: I was a teenager.) It seemed when I opened doors for them to step through (on my terms), one of them invariably slammed the door smack dab in my face. Ouch!
Have you ever felt restless for seemingly no reason at all? This could be a sign that you feel more troubled about something than you realize. Sneaky little feeling, troubled. This little feeling (or not so small feeling) can be full of little gifts for us if we can give ourselves a moment to explore more about it.
Continue ReadingMood swings and trauma recovery are a real thing. Sometimes the world seems as right as rain. Then there are those times when our internal world struggles to make a smile come out. Kind, supportive thoughts seem elusive. This is a natural momentum. Emotions feel like they are swinging up and down. Have you ever experienced that?
